Cameroon Government Agrees With SCNC

By Hon. Ayah Paul Abine.

It is not in dispute that the “Republic of Cameroun” attained independence on January 1, 1960. Nor is there any doubt that Southern Cameroons voted in a plebiscite on February 11, 1961, to join the “Republic of Cameroun”. The two states “federated” on October 1, 1961, and became known as the “Federal Republic of Cameroon”. But Ahidjo, the “President of the Federal Republic”, moved to abolish the federation as early as 1968. Whereas J N Foncha and A N Jua, leaning on Section 47 of “The Constitution of the Federal Republic”, objected, S T Muna took the opposite direction. By a presidential decree of that year,

Southern Cameroons Appeal to Italian Public

Firstly, may I on behalf of the annexed and oppressed people of Southern Cameroons, widows, orphans and the amputees, all victims of la Republique du Cameroun brutal repression and impunities, sincerely thank you all for honouring our invitation at such short notice. We are indeed grateful.

Special thanks go to Av. Francesco Tartini who has made it possible for me to have this audience with you. May this be the beginning of long term mutual cooperation ties between our two peoples and nations, all free and equal.

Another October 1st is here

By George Esunge Fominyen

First October is a complicated date in Cameroon. In recent times, it has been replete with stories about troop deployment to the English-speaking parts of Cameroon and the  arrest of activists of the Southern Cameroons National Council (SCNC) and members of other anglophone nationalism organisations. The period leading to this date, until last year, usually saw Anglophone elite -mainly ministers and people linked with government - travelling to their places of origin to discourage their kin and kith from gulping the seccessionist theories of the anglophone movements. I had a strange experience of this October 1 fever back in 2000.
